Deoghar gets FM airwaves - Stress on Angika, Santhali languages | News in Angika

Dumka, Jan. 20: Citizens of the temple town can now tune in to FM channels and listened to aakashvani with the All India Radio launching a relay centre in Deoghar today.

The facility will allow people to enjoy uninterrupted services of the Vividh Bharati through a single 100watt transmitter that has been installed here for the purpose. Initially, the FM services will be available within a radius of 10km radius from the relay centre situated in Satsangnagar locality of the town.

Godda MP Nishikant Dubey of the BJP formally inaugurated the relay centre at an event here, marking the beginning of a new era in this historic and religious town.

Addressing the gathering, Dubey said that he had already approached the authorities concerned to set up studios of All India Radio as well as Doordarshan in Deoghar, known for its rich cultural and religious heritage.

“With a studio here, AIR can produce programmes based on local languages, like Santhali and Angika, for listeners. Local artistes will get a wider platform to present their skills in front of a lager audience, while such events will boost indigenous languages,” Dubey explained.

Moreover, news and other events in local dialects will go a long way in bridging the communication gap between the government and the masses.

“The expansion of radio will help improve communication between the government and people at the grassroots level. Also, Maoists and other rebel groups will not be able to influence and mislead local youths,” the BJP leader pointed out.

Deoghar is now in the league of Chatra, Ghatshila and Bokaro districts where FM services are relayed through transmission centres.

For records, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Daltonganj and Hazaribagh already have full-fledged radio stations and services are aired through both medium wave and FM.

D.C. Hembrom, AIR director (technical) said, “The transmitter has already been installed and trial runs have been successful. Initially, people we will be able to listen to regular AIR programmes. Gradually, regional programmes, including regional news and entertainment, will be launched.”

State tourism minister Suresh Paswan and Prasar Bharati’s regional director Ratan Ghosh Dastidar were also present.
