Demand for Jharkhand's second official language status to Angika

Jamshedpur: Anjuman Tarraqui Urdu-e Hind has raised the demand to form Urdu Academy in
Jharkhand. The organisation has said that though the language has been accorded second
language status in the State but nothing has been done in its favour so far.

Addressing the media, the head of the literary organisation S RA Rizwi Chabban said that English
is fast replacing Urdu as the States official languages. The politicians at the helm and
bureaucrats are mostly ignorant about the Urdu language. Not only Urdu but Hindi too needs to
change according to the times so that it can applicable in all the fields.

He said that Urdu Academy is the need of the hour and there is an urgent need to make the
language applicable in the professional field so that young blood can make career from it.

Chabban said that not only Urdu, Hindi too is fast disappearing from the Government offices and
even courts but even it has ceased to be the mediums of instruction and a compulsory subject
at the school level.

When asked about the steps to be taken to promote the language, he said that the demand for
setting up of Urdu Academy to promote this language has been ignored by the State rulers.
There is no reason why the State authorities should not fulfill their constitutional obligation.

He also said that the Government should give second official language status to Maithili,
Bhojpuri, Angika and Maghi languages. “When Government could give second official language
status to dozen odd regional languages what is wrong in extending the same favour to these
languages,” said Chabban.
