Cocoon’ reveals beauty of Bhagalpur silk at fashion ramp

It was sheer fashion poetry on the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 runway, as Farah
and Firdos unravelled their beautiful silk collection. Using the gorgeous Bhagalpur silk from the
looms of the world’s best weavers, the “Cocoon” collection by the designing duo had specially
engineered weaves and exquisite handmade textures to give a new dimension to the fading craft
of the Bhagalpur silk and its weavers.

Keeping the silhouettes gently flowing, there were handmade textures that complemented the
grace and charm of the garments and yet preserved the raw nature of India’s rich heritage. The
delicately woven yarns flew gently on the runway and gave the garments a Luxe quality.

Creating their magic on each garment the designing duo worked with the sheath as the base for
each outfit on which the sheer almost gossamer like fabric was draped in intriguing and very
unconventional manner. Bunched, rouched, cringed, draped, folded, tucked and looped the
fabric floated around that models as they glided down the ramp with their bare feet encased in
the same fabric, The colour story was limited to white, blue, green, carbon green, brick, brown
and red.

The red jacket and the red hour glass dress were amazing creations while the braided, butterfly
and sari draped versions were studies in intense fashion design.

The final white gown was a stately end to an ultra creative fashion direction that Farah and
Firdos gave with their “Cocoon” collection.
