Bihar to celebrate century with ‘blues’!
Bihar will be swathed in blue during the three-day Bihar Diwas celebrations, beginning from
March 22. Cultural and social programmes will mark the start of celebrations which will continue
for the whole year.
All heritage buildings and many other structures — including the residence of Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar and Raj Bhavan — will be illuminated in blue.
The State Government even has appealed to people to illuminate their houses in the same
colour.
“During the celebration time, the entire State will turn into a blue zone, with lights illuminating
every nook and cranny. The colour was selected by Government officials,” said Bihar Tourism
Minister Sunil Kumar Pintu.
The department has reportedly planned to illuminate Gandhi Setu Bridge connecting north Bihar
with central Bihar in the same colour.
Besides, all the important buildings around the historical Gandhi Maidan will be decorated with
blue lights.
The three-day cultural extravaganza at Gandhi Maidan promises to be a musical treat with Bihari
regional flavour, including Maithili, Bhojpuri, Magahi and Angika folk songs apart from classical
songs, qawwalis and kavi sammelans. For the first time a Bihari song will be sung on the
occasion at Gandhi Maidan.
The ‘Bihari Gaan’ was selected from among 1,800 entries by a three-member committee.
Renowned artistes, including Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Hari
Prasad Chaurasia, Anup Jalota, Chhanu Lal Mishra and Sharda Sinha, have been invited.
Besides, an exclusive exhibition of archives related to establishment of Bihar will also be put up
at the venue. A book fair and a volleyball championship too have been planned. In another first,
an air show at Moinul Haq Stadium will be held, for which Air force has been contacted.
In course of the year-long celebration, various programmes will be organised in districts and
blocks. Government departments, universities and colleges too will commemorate the event.
Celebrating the 100th year of Bihar’s foundation is the brainchild of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,
who had connected this with Bihari asmita (pride).
