Governor assures for government protection to Angika Language

Patna : Bihar governor Devanand Konwar on Monday assured a three-member delegation of Anga Utthan Andolan Samiti (AUAS) to give a considered thought to its demands regarding government protection to Angika language. The AUAS delegation that called on the governor at Raj Bhawan on the day consisted of AUAS chief for Bihar and Jharkhand Gautam Suman and its two central general secretaries.

The delegation consisted of AUAS' Bihar-Jharkhand chief Gautam Suman and its central general secretaries Jayant Jalad and Shyam Sundar Karna. They submitted a memorandum to the governor who, according to them, said that he would invite them for detailed talks on the matter after the visit of Vice-President Hamid Ansari on Tuesday.
"The governor gave a patient hearing to our demands regarding the protection and promotion of Angika language. It is spoken in 15 districts across the Ganga river in Bihar and six districts of Santhal Pargana division in Jharkhand," Jalad said.

Suman had earlier sat on fast-unto-death for six days from July 5. Health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey broke his fast by offering him juice on Sunday, and also told the agitators that the Nitish Kumar government had decided in principle to take suitable steps for the protection and promotion of Angika language. Former CM Jagannath Mishra has also supported the demand of the Angika-speaking people.
