First time cultural programmes will be presented and announcements will be made in five regional languages-Maithili, Bhojpuri, Angika, Vajjika and Magahi on National Education Day
PATNA: The state human resources department (HRD) is all set to celebrate the National Education Day on November 11 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, an eminent educationist and Independent India's first education minister.
"As education minister, Azad oversaw the establishment of a national education system with free primary education and modern institutions of higher education. Bihar, in fact, became the first state in the country to initiate a move to celebrate Education Day in his memory in 2007. Later, in 2008, government of India also decided to observe November 11 as National Education Day," said HRD principal secretary Anjani Kumar Singh.
Though the beginning was modest, the HRD later organized the event in a big way in 2008. It will be likewise this year too.
The state HRD has acquired 800 sq feet area at Gandhi Maidan and four pavalions have been constructed where various cultural programmes, including sports, quiz and slogans on importance of literacy and state's commitment to education will be held. The entire event will showcase the "Mukhyamantri Akshar Anchal Yojana", a scheme which aims to make 40,00,000 women literate. This apart, the main focus of the programme will be on women empowerment and literacy, said HRD sources.
Apart from the HRD department, the Bihar Education Project (BEP) has also organized several programmes for the education day at the same venue focussing on girls education, said Ravi Shankar Sinha, programme officer, BEP.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Sushil Modi will jointly inaugurate the function on Wednesday, while governor Devanand Konwar will conclude the ceremony on Thursday.
Altogther 16 students of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), who have made it to IIT-JEE, would be awarded the Bihar Guarav Samman, said HRD minister Hari Narayan Singh.
It may be mentioned here that Maulana Azad is also credited with the foundation of the University Grants Commission (UGC), an important institution to supervise and advance higher education in the country.
