The government will accord highest priority to the interlinking of rivers for better management of water resources. This was announced by Union Water Resources Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz in New Delhi on Friday. He said that 14 National Projects have been identified in this direction with 90 per cent Central assistance. Prof. Soz said that effective measures should be taken for groundwater recharge programmes. The government has allocated 179.71 crore rupees for this. The Minister told that another 6,000 crore rupees have been approved for repair, renovation and restoration of water bodies.
