CCEA approves addl. DA for Central Govt. employees; road projects worth Rs 7300 crores

Government on Thursday announced six percent increase in the dearness allowance for Central government employees and pensioners. Briefing reporters in New Delhi after the meeting of the cabinet and CCEA, the Home Minister Mr. P Chidambarm said that the revised DA will be paid from January. With this DA has risen from 16 to 22 per cent.

Giving details of other decisions taken by the Cabinet, Mr. Chidambarm said that it approved the modification of the fiscal deficit target for states to 3.5 per cent to enable them to borrow upto similar level of the Gross State Domestic Product in the next fiscal.

Cabinet accorded nod for implementation of OBC quota reservation in National Institute of Fashion Technology to increase the intakes of reserved category students. Cabinet also approved extension of National Commission of Safari Karamcharis to March, 2010 and establishment of Overseas Indian centre in Abu Dhabi instead of Dubai.

The Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram while briefing reporters of CCEA decisions in New Delhi said that the Planning Commission has been requested to make as much funds available as possible in 2009-10.

He said depending upon the availability of funds; road works will be prioritised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, in consultation with the states concerned. The Minister said that CCEA also approved Ministry of Road Transport's proposal for upgrading of 264 km of national highways in Jammu and Kashmir, a part of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) North-South corridor.

The road construction work will be taken on sections where detailed projects reports have been approved besides environment clearance.
